Games of Thrones might be over, but awards season is in full swing across the Atlantic, with the Screen Actors Guild award ceremony taking place last night in Los Angeles.
Peter Dinklage , who played the Game of Thrones fan favourite Tyrion Lannister on the show, was nominated for his 7th SAG award, having missed out on a win six times previously.
Dinklage won the award of ‘Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor In a Drama Series’ category, beating out Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Steve Carell (The Morning Show), Billy Crudup (The Morning Show) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) during Sunday’s ceremony.
In his acceptance speech, he immediately began by saying a heartfelt thanks to this part of the world, where the show was produced and filmed for almost a decade.
“I would like to thank the people of Northern Ireland,” he said, receiving a round of applause from the audience.
He added: “[They] put up with us for nine years.”
The actor then paid tribute to the team behind Game of Thrones, who “put up with each other for nine years”.
Finally, Dinklage thanked his wife for putting up with him “for more than nine years, but who lived in a place far away from home but made it home because we were together”.
